Woody Woodpecker

I got really lucky today. For the first time, I managed to get some decent pictures of a woodpecker. And not a small one, either, a big red-headed pileated woodpecker. This fellow was probably a foot high. I followed him from tree to tree, hoping to get a clear shot, and I finally got some good pics once he lighted on an old dead pine in the back of the pasture. Cool, eh?

  1. Thanks Ernie for the woodpecker photos. Do you get to hear the mocking bird where you live? When I lived in Bradenton the bird would recite every sound it knew from 3 - 6am!

  2. Awesome. And I can't resist thinking you might enjoy this little series I've done on my blog, called, "Woody Woodpecker Turns Manic Attack Bird." It starts here:

  3. Yes, we have mockingbirds, but I guess I've just heard them all my life, so they don't stand out anymore. Maybe if the window was open and they were on the sill or something, but not normally.

Great story about the attack bird! That'll teach you to stay out of the trees.
